:: design we love :: VERMONT SOAPSTONE
Soapstone is a metamorphic rock that is excavated from hillsides and cut into slabs like any other stone or similar quartz product that is made into slabs or tiles. Soapstone doesn’t stain or burn and has a softness to the touch because of its high talc content. The talc makes the product nonporous and allows slabs to be sanded if scratched, acid also doesn’t etch the surface like it does other stone products. We are highlighting one of our favorite suppliers this month: Vermont Soapstone. They have been fabricating soapstone since the 1850s and we love their custom sinks, kitchen counters, and fireplace hearths. As an interior designer, it’s fun to pair the special veining in the rock with other textures and patterns.
